
Darren Whalen was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, the oldest city in North America, where he currently resides and is proud to call home.
In 2005, he graduated from the Visual Arts Program at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College emerging with a solid foundation in painting and drawing. As an artist with a passion for illustration, he aspires to develop strong technical skills and a confident hand. His influences include Alex Coleville, Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollock, Anselm Kiefer, Frederick Horsman Varley and, most notably, Lucian Freud. He enjoys the illustrations of Simon Bisley, Ashley Wood, Richard Corben, Bernie Wrightson and Tony Moore, just to name a few.
